What made you decide you wanted/needed to start a therapy program?
A friend's recommendation due to prolonged back pain and immobility. Being housebound- feeling isolated. Insufficient support from NHS. A general urge to do as much as I can to get better.
What results have you achieved since starting your recovery programme?
I am almost pain free when doing regular activities. A considerable improvement in mobility- now able to walk comfortably. Much improved confidence in my physical abilities without fear of relapse.
I have gained insight into the nature of pain, its causes and how it merges with our emotions. I have a deeper understanding of the impact of certain life events and how to deal with them. I've learned useful techniques in how to avoid suppressing emotions and overcome stressful situations.
I have a sense of achievement.
What do you like best about our personally tailored therapy programme?
I like that it goes above and beyond the standard approach to physical recovery by dealing with the mind as well. It is a means of healing and gaining strength to not only become healthy soon but also to remain well in future.
What would you say to someone on the fence about joining a therapy programme?
There is more to the body than we traditionally understand. Everything is interpreted in the mind so it is worth pursuing therapy if you're willing to go for it.
I would explain that it appears to have worked well for me and that I got more out of it than I expected.
