"I had suffered knee problems for around 7-8 years, but had recently signed up for a triathlon, and knowing that I was going to start running a lot more to train for it, I wanted to make sure I could finish it without damaging my knee. I had previously avoided therapy programmes, worrying that I would be told I could no longer run.
Pretty much since I started running, I have had to wear a knee brace to prevent my knee hurting. I would experience sharp pain, a feeling of weakness in it and just a general uncomfortable feeling that would prevent me running and often sleeping. I have now achieved running without pain and even better without my knee brace! This is an amazing result and one I didn't think possible when I first started the programme!
The approach is very different to what I anticipated- I thought it would be a case of me trying a few different exercises to strengthen my knee. Instead I got a programme that has made me change my thinking about exercise completely, taking me from seeing it as a chore to really enjoying it again. It has looked at all areas of my life to work out the issues I had to resolve, rather than just the area that was causing me pain. It is looking for the original cause, rather than treating the symptoms, to truly fix the issue.
I would definitely recommend it. My experience has taught me so much about exercise and that there are other factors involved other than just the physical pain you might be experiencing. I feel I have learnt techniques I can use in other areas of my life too. I feel a lot more confident in running, and feel I have learnt a lot about myself and how to improve my quality of life."
